Police in Gweru have arrested an adulterous woman from Lower Gweru after she allegedly poisoned her 37-year-old boyfriend with the help of his friend and dumped his body in a bushy area. Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which he said occurred on July 30 at around 10pm.

Insp Mahoko alleged that on the day, the now deceased, Kholisani Mpofu of Sogwala Village under Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru arranged to meet his married girlfriend, Letina Chikanda, at his friend, Vistas Nkomo's house.

It is understood that Chikanda and Nkomo hatched a plan to poison Mpofu's food with an unknown substance.
"We are investigating a murder case where a 37-year-old man from Lower Gweru died after eating poisoned food prepared by his girlfriend and a friend," he said.

Insp Mahoko said after the two love birds met at Nkomo's house, they had supper which had been prepared by the two suspects.

"It is alleged that after the two had supper, the now deceased Mpofu collapsed and started foaming from his mouth. Mpofu later died."

It is alleged that when Chikanda and Nkomo realised that Mpofu had died, they two took the body to a nearby bush where they dumped it along a footpath," he said.

Insp Mahoko said the body of the now deceased Mpofu was discovered the following morning by a passer-by who reported the matter to the police who attended the scene.

He said the body was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital for post-mortem.

"The two suspects Nkomo and Chikanda were arrested after police preliminary investigations linked them to the murder. They (Nkomo and Chikanda) are in police custody assisting with investigations. They will soon appear in court," he said.
