Man killed for calling brother a wizard

A 36-year-old man from Masvingo's Chief Nyajena communal lands was allegedly fatally struck by his brother for calling him a wizard.
Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the incident happened on Sunday at about 10pm. He identified the deceased as Tarusarira Makiseni of Tokwane Village,Ngundu.
He said the body was taken to Renco Mine Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.
He said the suspect was arrested and would appear in court soon facing murder charges.
"I can confirm the arrest of Makiseni Makiseni (48) in connection with the murder of his younger brother, Tarusarira. He is in police custody and will appear in court soon facing a murder charge," he said.
According to a source, on the fateful day at about 8.30 pm, Tarusarira visited his brother Makiseni at his homestead looking for a place to sleep.
"Tarusarira was coming from a beer drink just near his brother's homestead.
"He was too drunk to proceed to his homestead, which was a distance from his brother's. He slept in a kitchen hut," said the source.
He said after a few hours Tarusarira woke up and started shouting at his brother.
"He was shouting on top of his voice calling his brother, who was asleep in his bedroom hut, a wizard. He held him responsible for all the deaths that had happened in their family," said the source.
Makuseni was awoken by the noise and he advised him not to shout.
However, Tarusarira did not heed the advice and continued to shout calling his brother all sorts of names, he said.
Makiseni then ordered him to leave his homestead.
"He escorted him outside the homestead. When he was outside the yard, Tarusarira stopped and said he could not leave before setting his brother's homestead on fire.
A misunderstanding ensued between the two and Makiseni picked up a log and struck Tarusarira on the head and he died on the spot," said the source.
A report was made to the police the following morning leading to Makiseni's arrest.
