A 39-YEAR-OLD gardener from Borrowdale, Harare, fatally stabbed his 18-month-old son after accusing his wife of having an affair.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedius Chibanda said police arrested Panganai Masvaire in connection with the death of Sarah Koroni (29) on Wednesday.
It is alleged that on August 7 Masvaire, who worked as a gardener at 19 Hillview Road Philadelphia, had a misunderstanding with Koroni, whom he accused of having an affair, arguing that he was infertile and the son they had was not his.
During the dispute it is reported that Masvaire stabbed Koroni with a knife once on the stomach and once at the back, prompting Koroni to run to the main house to seek assistance from their employer.
Koroni sustained two deep cuts on her stomach and back. When Koroni ran to the main house she left their 18-month-old son playing in the yard.
It is alleged that after stabbing Koroni, Masvaire proceeded to their son where he stabbed him twice with a knife before striking him with an iron bar on the head, killing him on the spot.
When Koroni, escaped she alerted their employer and police were called, leading to Masvaire's arrest by detectives from CID Homicide who attended the scene.
The little boy's body was taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals mortuary for postmortem while Koroni was admitted at the same hospital.
