A 51-year-old man was kidnapped last week by seven unknown men at his house in Glen View, Harare, in unclear circumstances, police have said.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the man, Joseph Hwande, was at his home when seven men who were travelling in a Toyota Noah came and knocked at his door.

Hwande opened the door and the seven men manhandled him before bundling him into their getaway vehicle.

"They claimed to have been sent by his brother. His family reported the case to the police and his whereabouts are still unknown," said Chief Supt Nyathi.

"The family is saying Hwande does not belong to any political party. We are still carrying out investigations on the case."

The national police spokesman appealed to anyone with information that might assist in their investigations to contact any nearest police station.

In another case a Highfield woman was assaulted by a man who wanted to know why her sons had not voted during the just-ended harmonised elections.

According to police, a Highfield woman Betty Jambwa (60), was on Monday afternoon accosted by one Kennedy Mwamuka (66), while she was at her house.

Mwamuka is alleged to have asked the woman why her sons did not vote during the elections before he started assaulting her.

After assaulting her, Mwamuka fled and a report was made to the police leading to his arrest, said Chief Supt Nyathi. He warned people against taking the law into their own hands as the police would not hesitate to arrest them.
