Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantine Guvheya Chiwenga has paid tribute to members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) for remaining resilient in the face of challenges that confronted the force in the last few years due to economic hardships faced by the country.
In an interview during celebrations to mark the defence forces 33rd anniversary, General Chiwenga also paid tribute to the families of the members of the defence forces and the generality of Zimbabweans for their support and pivotal role in maintaining peace and tranquillity in challenging times.
He also commended them for a job well done in the various regional and international peace missions saying the force will continue to do its best and represent the country well on the international arena.
He said joint regional operations and training will continue to be undertaken to create a good environment for co-operation in the region.
General Chiwenga said the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security has strengthened military cooperation in the sub-region, with member states operating jointly in regional conflicts in operations such as Sovereign Legitimacy in the DRC.
Namibia's defence chief, Lieutenant General Epaphras Denga Ndaitwah joined Zimbabweans in celebrating the day.
The ZDF has made Zimbabwe proud on several regional and international missions and is renowned the world over.
These achievements fly in the face of the country's detractors who have been calling for security sector reforms in the country.
