A MOZAMBICAN national (40) allegedly skipped into Zimbabwe in pursuit of his wife whom he reportedly butchered in cold blood before burying her corpse in a shallow grave recently.

The heinous crime which left villagers in Burma Valley shell shocked came to light last week after a villager from the area discovered the decomposing body of the woman in a shallow grave.

Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chandanda, confirmed the murder.

He said Shadreck Matendari of Bvungo Village under Chief Magaka in Mozambique will appear in court soon on murder charges.

"It is alleged that the late Nene Vintura went to Burma Valley in June with her five-months-old baby to sell her wares which included spaghetti and illegal Zed Whisky at Nyamakari Farm. She did not return home.

"On an unknown date her husband followed her into the country. He looked for her, but could not locate her on that particular day. At one time he slept at Lena Mabhndi's homestead at Nyamakari Farm. No one knows where he later proceeded to because he just disappeared," he said.

Some weeks later Matendari was found with the five-months-old baby and the mother could not be located.

On August 5, a villager from Burma Valley discovered a shallow grave nearby a river.

She informed the police about the discovery and police later recovered the decomposing body of the deceased.

Police detectives then tracked the accused into Mozambique and arrested him for murder.

The matter was then referred to the homicide section in Mutare and on Tuesday Matendari was taken to the crime scene for indications.

Detectives handling the case said they were yet to establish the motive behind the killing although there were strong indications of a domestic dispute.
