THE State was Thursday expected to make an application to compel the court to freeze all bank accounts belonging to Harare businessman, Energy Mutodi, who is facing fraud charges in Mutare involving close to $2 million.
Mutodi who is alleged to have swindled more than 1 560 desperate home-seekers through the National Housing Development Trust was on Wednesday brought to court for routine remand.
He is in remand prison after Mr Noah Gwatidzo denied him bail saying he was a flight risk. Public prosecutor, Mr Nelson Makunyire, said on Wednesday that it was in the interest of the complainants to freeze the accused bank accounts.
He said some of the clients were still paying money into NHDT accounts through stop orders and there was need to safeguard their deposits.
"In the event that he is granted bail, he will withdraw the money from the accounts so we want to ensure that he won't have access to the money until the matter is finalised. Some of the clients are still paying and it is in their best interest that the deposits are secured," he said.
