Police Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri has called on the Zimbabwe Prison Services to make thorough assessments of inmates who benefit from the Presidential pardon to avoid the release of habitual criminals who normally terrorise residents after being released.
Commissioner General Chihuri said the release of habitual criminals is a cause of concern as the same people continue to commit similar offences.
He urged prison authorities to work closely with police in passing on valuable information about some criminals who are granted bail.
The Commissioner General also called for all the security forces to work together in combating crime.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is aiming at reducing crime by 90 percent by the year 2020.
This is expected to be achieved through the reduction of crime by five percent every year.
