Zimbabwe polls case hearing continues

Lawyers representing President Mugabe, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and outgoing PM Morgan Tsvangirai will today appear before the Constitutional Court following the withdrawal of the petition challenging the presidential poll results of July 31 polls by the latter.

Last Friday, Tsvangirai withdrew his Concourt application citing his failure to access voting materials used in last month's disputed polls.

One of Tsvangirai's lawyers, Chris Mhike, confirmed they would appear before the ConCourt today, but said they did not exactly know the issues behind their appearance.

Some commentators have expressed surprise at the decision by Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku to summon to court today all parties involved in the outgoing PM Morgan Tsvangirai's election challenge following the withdrawal of his petition on Friday.

Some legal experts said Tsvangirai's withdrawal should put the case to rest and pave way for Mugabe's inauguration.
