A girl (13) from Gokwe died after she swept petrol into a fire place, resulting in an inferno that engulfed the house, trapping her inside.
Acting Midlands Police Spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ellen Mukwende confirmed the accident that happened this week in Nemangwe village.
She said the girl's father, Amos Chitaunike who is a petrol dealer, accidentally spilled petrol and asked his wife to clean the floor.
The wife instead asked her daughter to clean while she visited a neighbour.
When she heard her daughter's screams, she rushed to the scene and entered the house trying to rescue her.
The two were rescued by members of the public and were rushed to Gokwe Hospital.
The girl was transferred to Gweru General Hospital, but died on the way.
Assistant Inspector Mukwende appealed to members of the public not to keep inflammable substances indoors as they pose danger to their lives.
