A Harare man, 45, has been arraigned before a Mutare magistrate for axing his wife to death after suspecting that she was cheating on him.
Stanislas Nyayedega was not asked to plead to an attempted murder charge when he appeared before magistrate Charles Murowe early this week.
He was remanded in custody to September 2 and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Charges against Nyayedega are that on August 13 he had a quarrel with his wife Mariam Marezu over a phone call she had received from an unidentified man as the couple was travelling from Harare to the Jombe area in Mutasa.
The State alleges that Nyayedega accused his spouse of cheating on him.
As the misunderstanding continued, Nyayedega allegedly punched his spouse twice on the face and later struck her twice on the head with an axe.
The woman was rushed to Harare Central Hospital for treatment and the State is still awaiting the medical report.
