Zimbabwe has unanimously been elected to chair the UNWTO Commission for Africa for the next two years.

Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Walter Mzembi told the state media on Saturday that Zimbabwe will use its chairmanship to spur growth, market and promote tourism in African countries, especially in issues to do with visa regime, connectivity and financing of tourism products.

He said the election of Zimbabwe to chair the Commission for Africa soon after the inauguration of President Robert Mugabe is an endorsement of the country's leadership and international diplomacy.

Zimbabwe will assume the presidency of the UNWTO on Monday.
