A 69-year-old Wedza woman allegedly died last Thursday after she drank a poisonous liquid which she mistook for beer.
Mashonaland East acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Tendai Mwanza yesterday identified the deceased as Dorcas Makaza.
"I confirm that Dorcas Makaza from Wedza died last Thursday after consuming an unknown poisonous substance that was in a beer bottle thinking that it was Chateau," said Mwanza.
According to police, the incident happened in the absence of Makaza's husband Collen Taguma.
When Taguma arrived home in the afternoon, he allegedly found his wife lying unconscious and rushed her to Mount St Marys Hospital where she later revealed that she had mistakenly taken poison assuming it was beer.
She, however, later died that same night.
