PRESIDENT Mugabe is expected to officially open the 103rd edition of the Harare Agricultural Show on Friday.

Last year, the show was opened by Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane.Zimbabwe Agriculture Society spokesperson Ms Heather Madombwe said her organisation was ready for the official opening and expected a big turnout.

"We opened the show on Friday to members of the public. We are very happy with the attendance, considering that the show is running concurrently with the United Nations World Tourism Organisation General Assembly in Victoria Falls," she said.

"The official opening will, as has been the norm, attract a huge turnout, especially because it is a day before the closure of the show."

Ms Madombwe said 765 exhibitors had taken up stands out of the available 780.

This year, show goers will be treated to Zimbabwe Defence Forces displays, drum majorettes, fireworks displays, dances from groups like the Chimbetus, Peter Moyo and Winky D.

This year's show is running from August 23 to 31 under the theme "Environmental, Entrepreneurial, Educational".

Children under the age of 12 pay an admission fee of US$1 and adults pay US$5.

This year's show has seen a business delegation from leading Italian agro-industrial companies SINT Tecnologie and Agro Tech S & D exhibiting.

The companies are showcasing the latest agro-processing technologies at the Italian Embassy stand and representatives will hold a series of meetings with stakeholders on the sidelines of the show.

The company is also involved in the construction and installation of abattoirs and meat processing plants.

A diversified service provider in the agro-processing sector, SINT also manages development of projects in the sector and provides processing solutions for milk, fish, fruit and vegetables.
