Three people from Harare who have been facing charges of tampering with the voters roll have been sentenced to two years in prison.

Farai Bhani, Tatenda Chinaka and Dorcas Shereni, who are linked to a local human rights organisation, were convicted of forgery and conspiracy to commit fraud.

Harare magistrate, Donald Ndirowei suspended the first 12 months on condition that they will not commit similar offences in the next five years.

He further suspended the remaining 12 months on condition that they perform 380 hours of community service.

However for Shereni, the court has asked her to pay a fine of $1000 after a medical report indicated that she has a disability rated at 65 percent.

The state has established that the three intended to tamper with the voters roll in order to discredit the country's harmonised elections.
