A PREGNANT woman in a polygamous relationship went into premature labour and gave birth after being beaten by her husband's wives.
Rimukai Moyo, 41, was severely assaulted by other wives after she failed to tell them where their husband was hiding. Moyo had to be taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital after she started complaining of stomach pains that were later confirmed by nurses to be labour pains. Her co-wives Fungai Chivale, 35, and Josephine Patiwako, 60, who are being charged with physical abuse appeared before Harare magistrate Arnold Maburo.
Allegations against the duo are that on the evening of July 25, the two teamed up and proceeded to Moyo's Westgate home. The court heard that the two women requested to see their 51-year-old husband, Andrew Mhlanga, who Moyo said was not around.
It is the State's case that they were not amused by what Moyo said and they started assaulting her and calling her profane names in the process.
Prosecutor Barbra Ndoro said Moyo began to have stomach cramps before reporting the matter to the police where they later took her to hospital and delivered a boy. While in court the oldest of the trio of wives, Patiwako, left the gallery in stitches when she said that Chivale was using unorthodox methods to get their husband's sole attention.
"My younger sister has opted to use some concoctions on my husband so that he does not come to my house. It has been four months and I have not had any sex from the man," she told the court.
