A Harare Polytechnic accounting student who attacked his neighbours and damaged their property while in a drunken stupor was yesterday ordered to do 70 hours of community service.
Tatenda Tandaanguni (22) of Unit O, Chitungwiza, who apologised to the complainants and vowed to quit beer, was also ordered to pay US$87 to one of the complainants whose property he damaged.
Tandaanguni who had one too many on July 29, at around 7pm, stormed into his neighbour Ms Lucia Musasiwa's house and started insulting her using vulgar language and labeling her a prostitute.
As if that was not enough, he seized a quotation of tiles she was holding, immersed it in a tumbler containing some beer and threw it at her face.
A scuffle between the two ensued before Musasiwa escaped to her neighbour Mr Simbarashe Mutowembwa's house to seek refuge.
He further picked a stone and hit her on the head leading to Musasiwa's brother Tawanda to come to her rescue. Tandaanguni turned his attention to Tawanda and started assaulting him. This forced Mutowembwa to intervene and was head butted in the process.
After that, he went to damage the padlock to Mutowembwa's door and punched him in the presence of a police officer.
He was subsequently arrested. Tandaanguni admitted to four counts of malicious damage to property and assault before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Kudakwashe Jarabini who sentenced him to do community service at Makoni Police Station.
