14-year-old girl raped by own father for rituals

In a case that has stunned villagers in Mahuwe, Mashonaland Central, a 35-year-old man in the area raped his 14-year-old daughter twice claiming a traditional healer instructed him to do so in order to prevent his wife from being promiscuous.
The man, whose identity is being withheld to protect the victim, was sentenced to 30 years in prison when he appeared before Bindura regional magistrate Mr William Billa last week.
Mr Billa suspended 10 years on condition he does commit a similar offence in the next five years.
According to court records, the man and his wife separated some time back following a series of marital disputes while the girl remained in the custody of her father. On an unknown date last December, the man entered the teenager's bedroom hut where he requested sexual intercourse to which she denied.
He then grabbed the 14-year-old by the waist, pushed her onto the mattress and raped her. Last month, the man again went to his daughter's bedroom. He forced her to kneel and raped her.
It is understood the girl's mother returned home later in the month after reconciling with the rapist.
The matter only came to light after the mother sought to establish why her daughter was crying relentlessly.
