Attacks by Zanu-PF agents, targeting known MDC-T officials and supporters, have intensified countrywide and it is feared the disputed election victory has given Mugabe's supporters even more license to commit violent acts.
The MDC-T reports that a house in which two children were sleeping was set on fire Thursday night, in what they suspect to be "a politically motivated attack" at Musanhi Village in Mutoko East.
The children managed to escape unhurt from the midnight attack, which took place at the home of Adam Katsiga, the MDC-T chairperson for ward 9 in Mutoko East. The suspects had allegedly threatened Katsiga earlier, saying they were going to deal him first before targeting other MDC-T supporters.
A statement from the party on Friday identified the suspects as Ishmael Chikweto, the Zanu-PF youth chairperson for ward 9, and Phineas Katsiga, the Zanu-PF ward councillor.
The MDC-T said a report was made to the police at Makosa Police Station in Mutoko, but no action has been taken.
Another attack was reported in Mahusekwa last Sunday when fire gutted the home of McDonald Muchetwa, the MDC-T parliamentary candidate for Marondera West in the July elections.
According to the MDC-T, property worth thousands of dollars was destroyed. Muchetwa lost a motor bike, bicycles, cement, maize and cell-phones in the blaze, which also happened around midnight.
The MDC-T statement said: "It is totally disturbing that Zanu-PF continues with such heinous attacks on the MDC supporters even when they claim to be victors in the just ended elections."
The party said they, "demand the immediate cessation of hostilities by Zanu-PF and call on people of Zimbabwe, regional and international bodies to roundly condemn such barbaric acts".
