A HARARE woman broke down in court as she narrated how her husband bashed her for changing the arrangement of furniture in their house.

Beula Mudzviti was giving testimony in the case in which she was suing her husband, Amos Chakarunga, at the Harare Civil Court last Wednesday, when she broke down.

She told the presiding magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga that since the death of her father-in-law, Chakarunga has made her life unbearable.

She implored the court to grant her application for peace order against Chakarunga.

"Can you believe that my husband can beat me up for boiling bathing water? If the water is not used after I boil it, he orders me to return the electricity I misused," she said. "If I wear clothes that are not matching my husband scolds me like I am a five-year-old child."

Chakarunga is also chasing his wife out of the matrimonial home, the court was told.

"I am his punching bag, I want peace. The reason I came here with him is for you, your worship, to tell him how other married couples live," she said.

When Chakarunga was asked to respond to the allegations, he just shook his head and said he had nothing to say.

"I don't know anything about what she is saying therefore I have no comment. She is the one who asked me to come here and I have no problems if you grant her the protection order," he said.

Magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga granted the protection order in Mudzviti's favour.
