The 8th Parliament of Zimbabwe will officially open on Tuesday, the 17th of September.
Clerk of Parliament Austin Zvoma says the new constitution gives the 8th parliament more power to hold all institutions accountable, including determining its own sitting sessions as it no longer provides for the former annual parliamentary sessions which were dictated by the President by means of annual proclamations.
Section 146 and 140, however, give the President power to summon them to meet on special business and both houses will have a joint sitting once a year on the State of the Nation Address.
"This is the 1st parliament to have more power and use the new constitution which gives it more stamina over the other two arms of the state and the official opening will mark the beginning of business," said Mr Zvoma.
Meanwhile, part of Nelson Mandela Avenue between Sam Nujoma Street, and Fourth Street will be closed on Sunday between 0930hours and 1300 hours.
The same part of the road will also be closed on Tuesday between 0600hours and 1430 hours.
Kwame Nkrumah Avenue will also be closed between Sam Nujoma Street and Fourth at the same time.
The other roads to be affected at the mentioned times will be Third Street at Jason Moyo Avenue, George Silundika at Third Street, St Mary's Lane at Nelson Mandela Avenue as well as Sam Nujoma at Samora Machel.
The First Session of the 8th Parliament of Zimbabwe will officially be opened by the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe on Tuesday.
