Woman wraps infant with a 50kg sack, leaves him to die

A 32-year-old Chinamora woman has been hauled before a Harare magistrate after she allegedly murdered her newly-born baby by wrapping the infant a 50 kg sack and leaving him in the bush.
Martha Ruzvidzo of Mandaza Village under chief Chinamora was yesterday remanded in custody to September 27 on infanticide charges.
Allegations against Ruzvidzo arose last Wednesday when she experienced labour pains while at her homestead and went to a nearby bush.
It is the state's case that while in the bush Ruzvidzo gave birth to a baby boy. She then allegedly wrapped the infant in a 50kg sack.
According to state papers, the infant was left tightly wrapped and succumbed to the sweltering heat, leading to its death.
Ruzvidzo was later arrested after people noticed that she had given birth.
She was taken to Makumbi Mission hospital for examination were it was proved that she gave birth.
According to state papers, Ruzvidzo once had an abortion and threatened to abort the pregnancy forming the substance of the charges she is facing.
