Former deputy minister, Obert Gutu who nearly became mayor of Harare has told Minister of Local Government, Ignatius Chombo to "get a life."

Gutu was annoyed as Chombo has said he would work with all those mayors and councillors up and down the country who were fired by the MDC for allegedly being bribed.

"And who is one Chombo to want to dictate to the MDC as to how we should deal with our renegade councillors? This man should simply get a life!," said Gutu.

He added: "In my opinion, there is an apparent contradiction between the provisions of Section 129 and Section 278 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe in as far as the sacking of councillors is concerned. In terms of Section 278(2) of the Constitution, a councillor can only be removed from office upon the recommendation of an independent tribunal that will be set up by an Act of Parliament.

How I wish that some of the essential provisions of the new Constitution ought to have been more unequivocally and unambiguously worded!!"
