The MDC-T candidate for Mberengwa South constituency has conceded defeat in the 2013 harmonised elections with the party withdrawing its election petition in the Mberengwa South constituency.

In a notice of withdrawal written to the electoral court dated 13 September 2013, MDC-T Mberengwa South National Assembly losing candidate Mr Davies Shoko conceded defeat to Zanu-PF's Chiratidzo Iris Mabuwa through his lawyers Gutu and Chikowero.

The notice of withdrawal was served to the electoral courts with Mabuwa's lawyers Musunga and Associates confirming the concession of defeat.

In filing the petition, Shoko had cited Mabuwa as the 1st respondent and the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission as the 2nd respondent.

Mabuwa of Zanu-PF polled 12 358 votes against Shoko of the MDC-T who got 1 562.

The losing candidate who had cited electoral malpractices, irregularities, illegal practices and other causes as reasons for the petition did not cite reasons of his withdrawal where he tendered all the costs.

Analysts have warned that the MDC-T, which suffered heavy losses in the 2013 harmonised elections, is seeking to delay progress through futile court petitions.
