One person died on the spot when a haulage truck crushed into a toll gate near Skyline in Harare early Saturday.
According to reports from traffic police officers who witnessed the incident but requested for anonymity, the haulage truck, labelled Azuri Logistics, without visible vehicle registration plates on it, was swerving from left to right on approaching the toll gate.
The police officers said the driver died on the spot after crushing into a toll gate.
The police officers said they tried in vain to stop the now deceased driver from hitting the gate leaving the truck beyond repair.
They said a vehicle belonging to Mr Simbarashe Kativhu of Glen Norah which was parked along the toll gate was also damaged beyond repair after the horrible incident.
The police officers could not tell whether the driver had been under the influence of alcohol, or whether the truck encountered brake failure.
Meanwhile, the name of the deceased is being withheld until his next of kin is notified.
