Woman burns self to death after argument with hubby

A 39-year-old Gokwe woman allegedly burnt herself to death in a pigsty last week after a heated argument with her husband in a case that has sparked a fierce clash between the woman's family and in-laws.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said investigations were on course to determine the cause of the inferno that killed Prisca Mangesi of Naison Village 4.
Information gathered so far indicates Mangesi and her husband argued on the night of September 19. Details of the argument are still unclear.
Mangesi, it is understood, then bolted from the house and torched herself in a pigsty at the homestead.
It was, however, too late to save her when the husband ventured outside, alarmed by the raging fire.
Mangesi's family suspects foul play and has refused to bury her remains.
Family spokesperson Mr Wonder Mangesi said their son-in-law should fully explain events on the night.
"At the moment, we are not going to take part in any procedure pertaining to the burial of my late sister.
"We want her husband to tell us what exactly transpired," he said.
"Instead of coming to us, as we live just some metres from where the incident happened, he chose to seek help at the police (station), which is several kilometres away."
Mangesi's husband could not be reached for comment.
Inspector Mahoko advised the public to always approach police for assistance where disputes arose.
