Motorists will now have to fork out a fine of $20 fine every month they delay paying vehicle licence fees to the Zinara.

This follows the gazetting of Statutory Instrument 141 of 2013 Vehicle Registration and Licensing Amendment Regulations.

Vehicle licence fees range from $20 for four months for a car whose net mass is 1500 kg to $3000 for a car whose weight is 10 750 kg and above.

Last year, the High Court ruled that police are empowered to fine motorists not displaying new licence discs on their vehicles.

Begining of this year Zinara impounded 432 vehicles in Harare in a blitz targeting cars without valid licence discs.

Zinara, police and the Vehicle Inspection Department are carrying out a blitz to enforce payment of vehicle licences following the realisation that less than 50 percent of the country's 800 000 vehicles are registered with Zinara.
