The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General, Augustine Chihuri has hailed women police officers for displaying high professionalism in the discharge of their duties while on international missions.

The rigorous training programme offered by the ZRP to its officers has enabled women police officers to excel in the discharge of their duties on the international scene.

Addressing officers returning from the United Nations (UN) peace keeping missions in Sudan and Liberia and those destined for the same mission, Commissioner General Chihuri said women police officers have been a source of inspiration not only for the ZRP but also for the UN.

In recognition of the efforts by the female police officers, 48 percent of the contingent sent to Liberia and Sudan are women.

"Women police officers are displaying high standards of professionalism and they continue to excel and meet the demands of the international peace keeping," said Commissioner General Chihuri.

A number of Zimbabwean female police officers have undertaken senior positions in the UN peace keeping missions, a development which has seen some of them being recalled by the world body, UN.

Meanwhile, Commissioner General Chihuri has commended the media for promoting peace by condemning the bombing of the Highfield Zanu PF offices and the Jongwe Printers.

However no arrests have been made so far and police say they are still investigating the matter.
