An elderly Harare man is nursing injuries after he was reportedly assaulted several times with an iron bar by three female neighbours who accused him of throwing garbage into their yard.
The women - Tsitsi Mukarati (28), Netsai Tarwira (23) and Lindiwe Chinyatsa (38) of Budiriro - pleaded not guilty to assault charges when they appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Reuben Mukavhi last week.
They were remanded out of custody to October 10. The court heard that on September 4 this year, the complainant, Mr Samuel Bande, had an altercation with Mukarati after the latter allegedly dumped a pile of rubbish in front of Mr Bande's house.
It is alleged Mr Bande threw the garbage into Mukarati's yard, resulting in a tussle. Chinyatsa and Tarwira then allegedly joined in after allegedly realising that Mukarati was losing the fight.
The three women allegedly assaulted Mr Bande with fists and sticks. Mukarati, it is further alleged, later brought an iron bar and allegedly assaulted the victim who subsequently fell unconscious. Mr Bande's relatives later took him to hospital and also made a police report that led to the trio's arrest.
Mr Reginald Nyarugwe appeared for the State.
