Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo, has urged the local media industry to develop a sense of nationalism and put aside political differences.

Professor Moyo, who toured the Daily News printing press and newsroom to get an appreciation of the group's operations, stressed the fact that the media should appreciate that the country has a common destiny and history.

Addressing journalists soon after the tour, Professor Moyo, who commended the media organisation for setting up state-of-the-art facilities, said the local media industry has all it takes to compete on the global media landscape, adding that there is need to leverage on the sound human capital.

"There are many who don't have half of what you have, and what is interesting to observe and experience first hand is that it is a total package from the physical space to the equipment and above all, the staff," said Professor Moyo.

The Minister, who was accompanied by his deputy Supa Mandiwanzira, also highlighted the fact that media organisations should prioritise staff welfare.

He said the issue should be addressed from the industry point of view, adding that his ministry is aware of challenges at other media organisations including the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation.

The Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services has recently stressed its commitment to create a conducive environment for stakeholders in the industry and to continuously engage with the industry towards the realisation of a vibrant media industry.
