THE embattled MDC-T party has suspended Gweru mayor, Councillor Hamutendi Kombayi and four others pending hearing on allegations of defying the party's directive to vote for the party's preferred mayoral candidate, councillor Charles Chikozho.

The hearing has been scheduled for Monday next week.

The other suspended councillors are Moses Marecha of Ward 5, Tawanda Magidi of Ward 16, Farai Muza of Ward 17 and Artwell Matyorauta of Ward 8.

MDC-T national organising secretary, Mr Nelson Chamisa confirmed the suspension of Gweru mayor, Cllr Kombay and the other four.

"I can confirm that Gweru mayor, Cllr Kombayi has been suspended together with four other councillors pending disciplinary hearing.

"However, the national executive is yet to deliberate on their fate. The disciplinary process is underway. The councillors are facing allegations of refusing to be guided by the party in the recently held mayoral elections. They will appear before the national disciplinary committee," he said.

Mr Chamisa said the suspended councillors have been served with the suspension letters. Meanwhile, MDC-T Mutare mayor, Cllr Tatenda Nhamarare and three other councillors who were also facing expulsion from the party appeared before the disciplinary committee on Monday.
