A 15-year-old girl from Gweru escaped death by a whisker after she was allegedly severely assaulted by her friends and buried alive.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that occurred on last Tuesday at about 8:35pm at Mkoba Village 9 Cemetery.
Insp Mahoko said Family Shorai (20) and her 17-year-old accomplice were in police custody assisting with investigations.
"The two are being charged with attempted murder," he said.
"They approached the 15-year-old girl and demanded back a dress she had borrowed. A heated argument ensued resulting in the two suspects assaulting the complainant with open hands all over the body," he said.
Insp Mahoko said the suspects allegedly force-marched the girl to Mkoba Village 9 Cemetery where they forced her into an open pit.
"They filled the pit with soil while the complainant was inside and covered her up to chest level. The suspects left the complainant behind and went home," he said.
The 15-year-old girl was later discovered at around 9:05 pm by a passerby who helped her out of the pit and reported to the police.
