Man stabs wife, kills uncle in domestic dispute

POLICE in Honde Valley yesterday launched a manhunt for Brian Chiringa who allegedly stabbed his wife on the chest and later killed his uncle using the same knife on Monday following a domestic dispute.
Manicaland acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean said Chiringa allegedly stabbed his wife Diana Nyamutata, accusing her of infidelity, and later killed his uncle, Shepard Mareya, after the latter tried to restrain him.
According to the police, Chiringa had earlier pleaded with his wife to withdraw charges of abuse she had laid against him at Ruda Police Station.
"On their way to withdraw the charges, Chiringa told his wife that he was no longer going to the police station and his wife was supposed to withdraw the charges alone," Clean said.
"Chiringa waited for his wife at Hauna growth point. After his wife returned, he started accusing her of infidelity. When they arrived home, Chiringa took a knife and stabbed her twice on the chest before setting their house on fire.
"It is at this point that his uncle (Mareya) tried to restrain him, but instead, Chiringa turned against him and stabbed him once on the chest and once on the neck, killing Mareya instantly."
Police said after committing the offence, Chiringa fled the area, while his wife was rushed to Mutare Provincial Hospital where she is reportedly still in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, police in Chipinge are also looking for an unidentified armed robber, who shot and killed an airtime vendor identified as Sydney Nyabeza and later opened fire on two other people at Checheche business centre on Monday.
According to Clean, circumstances were that the suspected robber approached Nyabeza purportedly intending to convert his United States dollars into the South African rand.
"As the two were talking, the unknown assailant drew his pistol and shot Nyabeza once in the stomach and the second bullet hit Boniface Moyana, who had just bought airtime from Nyabeza on the right palm. The bullet went through the right palm and then hit Pelandaba Mayoneyi on the sheen," Clean said.
Moyana and Mayoneyi were recuperating at Chiredzi District Hospital.
