A 26-year-old Beitbridge man who raped a critically ill woman, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He will serve and effective 10 years in prison since nothing was suspended.

On 28 June this year at about 7pm, Ndou approached the critically ill 34-year-old-woman who was resting by the side of the road in the company of two men.

The other two men proceeded with their journey leaving Ndou with the woman.

Ndou proposed love to the complainant but she did not respond as she was critically ill and could not talk.

He then pushed the complainant to the ground and raped her once while wearing two condoms.

The complainant could not scream or resist since she was critically ill.

After raping her, Ndou only identified himself as Tee before he went away leaving the complainant lying on the ground.

The complainant was found unconscious by a passerby the following morning who also discovered that there were used condoms close to the complainant.

The complainant was taken to hospital for treatment but at that time failed to narrate what had happened.

It was only on 19 September that she managed to narrate what had happened leading to Ndou's arrest.
