A 35-year-old Mutare man - who was facing theft charges after stealing a shaving machine worth 99 cents from a supermarket last week - left the court in stitches when he wept uncontrollably, begging for forgiveness from the magistrate.

Masimba Ndlovu pleaded guilty of shop-lifting before Mutare magistrate, Patience Vhutuza.

He had stolen a plastic shaving machine worth 99 cents at TM Mutare Main Supermarket. He was fined US$20 or five days in prison.
Asked why he had committed the offence, Ndlovu said: "I regret having committed the offense. I always wear a clean shave, but I had no money to buy."

In a state case led by prosecutor, Shepherd Chavarika, it was proved that on September 28, Ndlovu entered TM Mutare Main Supermarket and stole the shaving machine.

The court was further told that Ndlovu proceeded to the till points and passed through without paying.

An alert security guard apprehended him leading to his arrest.
