Rural women deserve support says Muchinguri

Government says rural women play a critical role in providing food security and nutrition for Zimbabwean families and are thus entitled to all forms of support.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Gender and community development, Oppah Muchinguri told journalists that as the nation commemorates this year's International Day of Rural Women, government is coming up with strategies to ensure that inputs, lines of credit, technology and information are availed to the women who constitute a large percentage of the total farming community in Zimbabwe.
Rural women in Sub-Saharan Africa produce 60 to 80 percent of basic foodstuffs and process 100 percent of basic household foodstuffs on the continent.
In Zimbabwe, 80 percent of women live in the communal areas constituting over 60 percent of the farmers and providing 70 percent of the labour on the farmlands.
