A 67-YEAR-OLD headman from Gutu in Masvingo has been jailed for two months for defying his chief's court order to stop illegally resettling villagers in Chatsworth.

Suston Chigaramunzekeri who is Headman Chingwari under Chief Serima pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gutu resident magistrate Mr Nyasha Vhitorini on Monday.

He was, however, convicted and sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of court.

Two months were suspended for three years on condition of good behaviour. It is the State case as represented by Ms Beatrice Mukaro that on 6 December last year, Chief Serima dragged Chigaramunzereki to his court after he illegally resettled people at Muzondo Village in Chatsworth.

The court heard that Chigaramunzereki was found guilty by the chief's court and fined a beast. Chigaramunzereki was ordered by the court to stop resettling people but he defied the order and continued to resettle them.

Chief Serima later reported the matter to the police leading to Chigaramunzereki's arrest.
