A Harare woman yesterday told the court that her husband allegedly abducted and threatened to throw her into a river a few days after they divorced.

Envioleta Chigwande said this at Harare Civil Courts where she was seeking a protection order against her ex-husband Passmore Chakwira.

"Your worship, I have been married to this man for the past 22 years and I am tired of abuse," she said.

"I am seeking a protection order so that he stops threatening me with death or frequenting my vending place where he harasses me."

She added: "I moved out and he comes where I am staying and makes all sorts of noise to frustrate me.

"At one time he broke the eggs that I sell before he forced me to get into his car and demanded my cellphone which he said he was going to monitor.

"While in the car he told me that he was driving to an unknown place and throw me in a river. I shouted for help while passing by a bus stop and he made a U-turn and dumped me at Machipisa Police Station."

Chigwande narrated how at one time Chakwira paid condolences to her mother before telling her that he was going to cause her (Chigwande's) death.

Chakwira, however, denied the allegations and said he was not supporting her financially because he has not been employed for the past two years.

"We separated but I asked her relatives to persuade her to come back home but she refused. If the court grants the order, it means the marriage is over," he said.

Magistrate Ms Rebecca Kavhiya ruled in Chigwande's favour and ordered Chakwira not to assault, insult or conduct himself in any violent manner.
