CID detective guilty of theft

Former CID vehicle and theft squad detective Gilbert Zvaita, who allegedly stole a motor vehicle and attached number plates belonging to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission chairperson Rita Makarau, has been found guilty of theft.
Harare regional magistrate Hosea Mujaya acquitted Zvaita of the first count of unlawful entry and is expected to rule on the matter today.
Prosecutor Kudzai Chigwedere alleged that Zvaita had connived with Golden Magweje and Joseph Makanuka, who both died in a police shoot-out, to steal the white truck before looting several of Zishiri's household belongings in Mutare.
On June 5, Zvaita reportedly went to Southerton Police Station and reported that registration book of the vehicle which belongs to Makarau were lost in the CBD.
