Police have so far identified 14 out of the 24 victims of the Chisumbanje road accident, with assistance from the survivors of the horrific crash.
Six of those identified are from the Mlambo family.
Police on Wednesday visited the scene of the accident and met the survivors who assisted in identifying, from memory, some of the dead.
"The remains of the 24 accident victims are at Chipinge Mortuary. Four survivors are reportedly in a stable condition at Chipinge Hospital, while two, from the tanker that exploded, are also recovering at St Peters Hospital in Chisumbanje," said Mtiwi.
Mtiwi said it is likely that the police will engage forensic investigators to identify the rest of the vistims as most of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
The Mlambo family was on its way to a funeral in Mariya Village with the body of Clifford Mlambo, when their T35 truck had an accident with a fuel tanker, resulting in an explosion.
Witnesses said the tanker exploded before they could rescue most of the injured victims, resulting in only six being saved from the inferno.
21 people died on the spot and the six rescued victims were taken to St Peters Hospital, where the other three died on admission.
