Man scalded with hot porridge in a row over a drum

A disabled 33-year-old Harare man was left nursing severe neck and chest burns after he was scalded with porridge by his brother in a row over a drum.
The incident occurred last week at number 939 Hopley Zone 6 in Waterfalls after Charles Chari (25) poured boiling porridge on his brother Anyway after a quarrel over a borrowed drum which had gone missing.
Charles appeared in court on Wednesday before Mbare magistrate Ms Precious Muzondo facing assault charges.
Circumstances are that on October 25 at around 1130hrs Anyway and Charles were at home when a neighbour came to collect a drum he had lent them.
Anyway referred all the questions surrounding the disappearance of the drum to Charles.
It is the state's case that Anyway's response to the visitor did not go down well with his younger brother who got annoyed and an altercation started.
Charles started shouting and insulting his brother before he picked up a pot full of hot porridge from the fire and poured it on his brother who sustained severe burns around the neck and chest.
The case was reported at Waterfalls Police station leading to the arrest of Charles.
