TWO suspected notorious armed robbers who were arrested in Mutare last week after they allegedly waylaid a businessman in the city as they tried to rob him of cash and valuables were shot and killed on Wednesday after they attempted to flee from the police during indications at Greendale Cemetery in Harare.
Police said Tendai Elvis Makiseni Faku, alias Brian Muzungu (34) and Raymond Maringosi alias Givemore Mutize (38) were pronounced dead on arrival at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals on Wednesday night after they tried to flee. Faku was brother to Tinashe Faku who was one of the three suspected armed robbers that were shot and killed by police in Harare in July.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba yesterday confirmed the robbers' death and described the suspects as "extremely dangerous". She said the two had been brought to Harare from Mutare Central Prison to assist with investigations and had led police to the recovering of several weapons they used to commit crimes.
"On October 30, at around 9:46pm the suspects were taken to Greendale Cemetery where they had led police with the intention of recovering of two revolvers they had hidden. During the process they tried to run away and they were shot," she said.
