Prophet Makandiwa
A school in Gutu was forced to cancel two trips after a prophecy said the children will perish in an accident.
Parents from Hwiru Primary School in Gutu freaked out and resolved to stop their children from going on two educational trips to the Great Zimbabwe Monuments and Chiredzi.
The school head, Takavabvirakare initially declined to talk to The Mirror but later confirmed the cancellation of the trips due to a prophecy by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's church which some parents allegedly came and told the headmaster about.
Efforts to get a comment from UFI spokesperson, Kufakunese were fruitless as he did not pick his phone. However UFI's Pastor Joseph Muzhuzha based in Masvingo dismissed the allegations of the prophecy and said whoever was spreading such a prophecy was bent on tarnishing the image of the church. He said the only person who made prophecies in the church was Makandiwa.
A parent who declined to be named said the school planned two trips, one to Great Zimbabwe Monuments at $30 per pupil and another to Chiredzi at $60 per pupil. Three buses were to be hired to ferry the pupils.
However, at some stage the UFI church is said to have held a church gathering next to the school and that is where the prophecy is said to have come from.
The headmaster then sent out letters to parents calling for an emergency meeting.
"An emergency meeting was conducted on 0ctober 14 2013 and the headmaster told the parents that some parents had come to him and told him about the prophecy from the Makandiwa church. The head said he had consulted his seniors at the district offices who told him to get a decision from the parents.
He also told the parents that some of them had already withdrawn their children from the trip as a result of the prophecy. It was then that the parents resolved to stop the trips," said a parent who attended the meeting.
Acting Provincial Education Director Fadzai Jirivengwa said the said trip had not been sanctioned by the Ministry.
"I don't remember receiving any application letter from Hwiru Primary about that trip," said Jirivengwa. Pastor Muzhuzha conceded that the church held a service near the school but denied that there was a prophecy made about the children's trips.
"The only person with the right to prophesy is our Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa not us. That person is trying to tarnish our image, we did not prophesy anything. We only held our conference near Hwiru School but no one prophesied anything on that matter," said Muzhuzha.
