PUBLIC Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Nicholas Goche has said there is nothing amiss with the continued stay in office of Civil Service Commission chairperson Dr Mariyawanda Nzuwah and Registrar General Mr Tobaiwa Mudede.

He said this while responding to a question by MDC-T legislator Dorcas Sibanda on why the two were still in office when they had passed their retirement age. Minister Goche said Dr Nzuwah was appointed in terms of the provision of the Constitution.

"His Excellency, the President according to section 202 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe has the powers to appoint members of the Civil Service Commission, the chairperson and the deputy chairperson and the members," he said.

"They hold office at the pleasure of the President. They are not part of the civil service and are not governed by the code of the civil service."

Minister Goche said Mr Mudede had his contract renewed, adding that this was allowed in terms of the civil service guidelines.

He said that a number of teachers and nurses have been retained in similar circumstances.
