ZUNDE Reveals Interim Leadership

Zimbabweans United for Democracy (ZUNDE) is pleased to announce that we are now in the process of finalizing our team which will have a global presence. True to form, we exist to rally all pro-democracy movements at home and abroad to a unity of purpose where we will effectively oppose dictatorship, poor governance, corruption, impunity and lawlessness. As a movement, we will work tirelessly and collectively to find a lasting solution to our protracted crisis.
While our core team is still being finalized, we hereby happily and confidently present the following cadres in the Interim Executive:
Farai Mbira – President
MPhil – Location Based Services/Intelligence, Master Information Management, Post Grad. Dip Business Management
Farai Mbira is a fearless freedom fighter whose activism started 1978 in Wedza where he met and later joined ZANLA freedom fighters. After independence in 1980 he went back to school. This was very fortunate because he escaped the brainwashing, shaming, contempt and abuse of war veterans by Zanu PF that later transpired. After working for some time he left Zimbabwe in 2003 and settled in New Zealand where he continued with his activism and community work. In New Zealand he helped establish and lead the Wellington Zimbabwe Community organisation ZimDARE and the MDC Wellington Branch.
Farai has a deep Christian conviction and faith. His professional background in ICT, Business Administration and Research provides him with a unique insight into the future possibilities that Zimbabwe can aspire to. He joins ZUNDE fully aware of what lies ahead and the challenges we will have to face until we get home. He is not deterred about that. He smilingly says "God has given me everything I ever hoped for and it's now time to bless others". Farai is a good listener, communicator and empathic leader who will not ask people to do things he won't do himself. Categorically, he declares "Things are so bad that FEAR IS NOT AN OPTION".
Benjamin Paradza – Vice President
Former Judge of the High Court of Zimbabwe
Currently Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand
Bachelor of Law (BL Hon) and postgraduate Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Zimbabwe, Masters in Public Policy and Governance, School of Government, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
Benjamin was a Zimbabwean judge when he fled his homeland in early 2006 after what is widely regarded by independent commentators as one reason why the Zimbabwean government has been accused internationally of interference with the independence of the judiciary.
After being a guerrilla commander in the liberation struggle against white minority rule from1978 until independence in 1980, he went on to complete his studies at the University of Zimbabwe. He then practiced law in Zimbabwe for over 20 years, first as a magistrate, and then in private practice, finally rising to become a Judge.
Together with the current interim President and the Secretary General, they came up with the idea of ZUNDE because as a people, they realize that if we need change, we cannot outsource it to a few people among us or the international community.
Paradza says "change comes from small fires and small initiatives which work. When those small fires are lit and fanned, they grow and become the fashion. We cannot wait for great visions from great people because great people are in short supply. It is up to us to light up our own fires in the darkness to bring about the change we want. The cost of it is too real to describe. But do it we must".
"Zimbabweans I am not great and do not want to be. What I am doing is to light up my own small fire in the darkness hoping that you too will do the same. Together we will defeat this cruel dictatorship. Who we give the mandate to rule, the people will decide. Thank you for the support you have given to ZUNDE. Come let us all join hands. Black or white, there is no difference between us. We belong together. Zimbabwe is our motherland. We should all fight for our dignity. Let's rid ourselves of inhumanity and indignity that has reduced us to the dustbins of history".
Moses Chamboko – Secretary General
Moses Chamboko is a relentless pro-democracy advocate with many years of activism and Diaspora experience. His academic and professional background comprises a sound combination of ICT, Business and Management. Having written several articles critical of the Zimbabwe crisis over the years, particularly from 2008, Moses feels it's time for more practical involvement with the quest for humanity, dignity and freedom. This can only be achieved through a truly democratic, peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe.
As he consciously joins ZUNDE, Chamboko is inspired, motivated and encouraged by a wide diversity of historical events, scholars, philosophers, authors and genuine liberators. Here, he singles out Albert Einstein "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them". He therefore, believes it is quite ominous that the cause of a problem can be regarded as part of the solution.
He challenges his friends, colleagues and all progressive Zimbabweans and friends of Zimbabwe at home and in the Diaspora to look at our situation differently and think seriously about how they can make a difference to our potentially great nation. In his words, "doing nothing is not an option".
