A 39-YEAR-OLD Marondera woman who for two years paid school fees for her three children using forged bank deposit slips was on Friday arraigned before Marondera magistrate Tendai Muchini facing 20 counts of fraud.

Grace Kwaramba, however, denied the charges of duping Mt St Mary's High School in Wedza and Godfrey Huggins Primary School in Marondera of $7 271 where her children were enrolled.

The court heard that the alleged offence was committed between January 2012 and October 2013 with Kwaramba using forged bank deposit slips each time the schools demanded fees for her children.

Prosecutor Melody Masiye told the court that on January 27, 2012 at Standard Chartered Bank, Marondera Branch, Kwaramba allegedly paid $19 as school fees for her son Dominic Makwasha. She then forged the bank deposit slip to appear as if she had paid $340.

The offence came to light on September 5 this year when the bursar at Mount St Mary's High School picked up the alleged scam and discovered that the school had lost $321.

On May 4, 2012 at Standard Bank Marondera branch, Kwaramba allegedly paid $10 as school fees for her other son Simbarashe Makwasha. The accused went on to forge the bank deposit slip to Mount St Mary's High School and misrepresented to the school that she had paid $320.

On September 11, 2013, at ZB Bank Marondera branch, Kwaramba paid $5 for her daughter Catherine Makwasha, who is enrolled at Godfrey Huggins Primary School in

Marondera. She went on to forge the bank deposit slip and misrepresented to the school that she had paid $205. The matter came to light on October 21, 2013 when the school authorities were alerted by police detectives from Marondera.

Police later discovered that she had duped the same schools on 20 different occasions using the same modus operandi.

The court remanded her in custody to November 13 for judgment.
