'No one can override Mugabe'

Zanu-PF Deputy Chief Whip in the National Assembly, Mandy Chimene has added her voice to the assertions by the Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Professor Jonathan Moyo that the President is the final authority in the party and government.

Chimene, who is a member of the Central Committee and National Assembly member for Makoni South, told reporters that no one can override what President Robert Mugabe says through his official spokesperson, Mr George Charamba.

She also said the two offices occupied by Rugare Gumbo as party spokesperson and Mr George Charamba as presidential spokesperson have well defined roles which should never be misunderstood.

Last Friday, Professor Moyo had to clarify the position after the ministry was inundated with calls seeking explanation on the matter where some sections of the media ascribed to Gumbo statements contradicting an instruction given by President Mugabe to Mr Charamba.

Mr Charamba had been advised by the President to tell the media that the Politburo will take a decision on Mashonaland Central provincial election results after receiving them together with a report from the presiding team.
