A Harare man allegedly connived with his second wife and secretly buried his son whom he had fatally assaulted with a fan belt over an undisclosed dispute.
Paradzai Masiya (28) of Kuwadzana 1 assaulted his son from his first marriage with a fan belt before locking him inside the house after sustaining internal injuries.
It is alleged Masiya did not take the child for medical attention leading to his death while in the house. To cover up for the offence, Masiya allegedly connived with his second wife, Tambudzai Gotekote (29) and buried the child without alerting their relatives or neighbours.
Masiya and Gotekote were not formally charged with murder when they recently appeared before magistrate Ms Blesssing Murwisi.
The duo was advised to apply for bail at the High Court due to the seriousness of the offence.
The lower court has no bail jurisdiction on such matters. Appearing for the State, Mr Chrispen Chikafu told the court that sometime in January last year, Masiya fatally assaulted his son Trymore.
He sustained internal injuries due to the assault which led to his death.
The court heard that Masiya and Gotekote concealed his death and secretly buried him in a bush which is between Crowborough and Kuwadzana suburbs.
It is the State's case that Masiya lied to Trymore's mother that her child was missing prompting the woman to report his son missing.
Investigations led to the pair's arrest. Masiya confessed how he had killed and buried his son.
