UN re-aligns aid to Zim Asset

The United Nations (UN) says it is reviewing the assistance it provides to Zimbabwe through the Zimbabwe United Nations Development Assistance Framework (ZUNDAF), to align it with the policies and goals of the new Zanu-PF Government.
The ZUNDAF is the UN's strategic programme framework set up to support national development priorities as well as support the achievement of Millennium Development Goals.
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) country representative Basile Tambashe said the review, being done this week, would seek to align ZUNDAF goals to the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim Asset).
Zim Asset is an economic blueprint, drawn from Zanu-PF's 2013 election manifesto, which will guide economic development over the next five years.
"As you know very well our support to the Government is articulated in this document that we call ZUNDAF, the current one is for the period 2012 to 2015 and this blueprint (Zim Asset) has come at a very opportune time because it came out two or three weeks before we review our ZUNDAF," he said.
"What we can assure you is our willingness to continue supporting the Government through the ZUNDAF. Our current ZUNDAF was anchored on the Medium Term Plan but now we have a new blueprint. We are, through the review that we are going to carry out this week, going to review to what extent our ZUNDAF still remains relevant in the context of the blueprint."
Tambashe expressed hope that the ZUNDAF would not work against the goals set in the Zim Asset.
"We are reading your blueprint and we are trying to see what kind of fixes we need to bring about so that ZUNDAF works very closely to the new blueprint," he said.
The current ZUNDAF has identified seven priority areas including promoting food security at household and national levels and increasing access to quality basic social services for all.
It also seeks to promote universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
