President Mugabe is said to be sponsoring the opposition in Botswana in a bid to oust President Ian Khama.

But Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) chairman, Guma Moyo has laughed off the reports that  suggested that he is among key members of BDP sponsored by Zanu-PF to scuttle President Khama's succession plans.

Yesterday, the MP denied allegations that top BDP officials are being investigated by the police over Zanu-PF links. "First people were saying that I was buying people to vote for me, now the story is that  I am being bought, do you honestly believe I can be bought? I see it as media talk. I can't control it, and I don't have time for it. I have a lot in my hands right now like preparing the BDP for the elections.

If you ask me about how we are preparing for the elections next week, we can talk," Moyo said. But he admitted that a parliamentary candidate in Bonnington South in Gaborone has been suspended from the party. Chris Nthuba, alleged to be his ally, has been suspended leaving the incumbent Botsalo Ntuane to unopposed ahead for the November 30 BDP primaries.

A BDP officer responsible for collating the primary elections data and allied to Moyo is said to be under investigations after allegations she was caught in electoral fraud. Though Moyo denied the Zanu-PF reports, inside sources told The Monitor that Khama has been briefed about a plot hatched by some central committee members that involves eliminating certain favourites for the post of vice president in the primaries.
